Guest House on the North Shore, Auckland
We are situated in the lovely suburb of Torbay, on Auckland’s North Shore. We pride ourselves on the fact that our B&B; is not your run of the mill homestay but truly a total support system where guests become friends and are treated like family. Most of our guests are starting a new life in New Zealand and this can be a very emotional time. We understand that many new arrivals need a friendly shoulder to lean on or someone to talk to. We know what you are going through and are there for you having gone through the experience ourselves.
Our B&B; is handily situated on the bus route and close to schools. Our rates are very competitive and we have a number of options to choose from. Our goal is to ensure you get off to a solid start in New Zealand and remember we are here to help you in any way we can.
Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and offers a temperate climate, amazing geography and a lifestyle that’s ranked alongside the world’s best. Within half an hour of the city centre you can be enjoying any number of leisure activities, from sailing or trekking through rainforest to walking on a volcano or tasting wine at an award-winning local vineyard.
We can assist with the following:
Setting up a New Zealand bank account
Register an IRD number (for employment and tax purposes)
House functions to expand your network and meet new people
Meet your Hosts Frank & Denise
Denise and I farmed (mainly milk, sheep and wheat) in the old Western Transvaal, South Africa up to 1990. During our stay on the farm, Denise also taught for some time at the local primary school while I was lecturing part-time at the University of Potchefstroom and College of Agriculture.
Since we lived more than 40 km from the nearest High School, and were reluctant to lose our 3 children to boarding school, we decided to make a radical change to our lives in 1990. We packed up, left the family farm, and moved to Hermanus to live by the sea. Here Denise, after helping me to manage a restaurant we bought, established Harvey World Travel of Hermanus.
We relocated to New Zealand in 1997 after we sold Rossi’s Restaurant and Harvey World Travel. When we arrived in New Zealand our daughter was 21 and sons 18 and 19. They all adapted fairly easily to the Kiwi way of life and although our 2 boys live overseas, they call themselves Kiwis and vowed to return when they start their own families one day.
All of our rooms are neat and spacious, containing either a double or queen size luxury bed with linen and more than adequate cupboard space. Each room is equipped with its own TV, bar fridge and access to fast wireless broadband internet connection for your convenience. Each room has an iron and kettle with an unlimited supply of tea and coffee! A number of rooms are furnished with an en suite bathroom.
